Kampala, July 18, 2024 – In a significant move to further strengthen Uganda’s investment climate, Uganda Baati met with Col. Edith Nakalema, the head of the State House Investors Protection Unit. This meeting marks an important milestone ahead of Uganda Baati’s 60th-anniversary celebrations.

During the engagement, Col. Nakalema emphasized the government’s dedication to fostering a favorable investment climate for local and foreign investors. “The government is committed to listening to investors and creating a fair and equitable investment climate,” she stated. Through the Electronic Investors Protection Portal, investors can easily communicate their concerns, which will be addressed swiftly. This portal effortlessly facilitates the lodging of complaints about issues like extortion.”

She also highlighted the establishment of a 24/7 service centre designed to assist investors globally with inquiries and guidance at any time. “The Government has established a 24/7 service centre where investors in any country can call for inquiries and guidance at any time,” Col. Nakalema added. We are here to ensure every investor feels supported and valued.”

Mr George Arodi, CEO/Business Head at Uganda Baati, expressed gratitude towards the government for its proactive measures in addressing investor concerns. “We appreciate the efforts of the State House Investors Protection Unit in creating a system that combats extortion and addresses investors’ issues using advanced technology,” Mr. Arodi said. “At Uganda Baati, we have always prioritized transparency and integrity, and this initiative by the government aligns perfectly with our values.”

Mr Arodi further highlighted Uganda Baati’s long-standing commitment to creating more jobs and meeting its tax obligation, mentioning that 95% of its employees are Ugandans. “As one of the earliest investors in the country, Uganda Baati is dedicated to contributing to Uganda’s development,” he noted. Our Corporate Social Investments are grounded in four key pillars: health, environment, education, and safety.”

Mr Arodi also stated that the company is partnering with the Ministry of Education and Sports to set up Uganda Baati Technical Institute in Tororo, which is expected to be operating starting with four vocational courses in the next three months. This will skill youth, turning them into job creators.

This stakeholder engagement is a precursor to Uganda Baati’s 60th-anniversary celebrations, commemorating six decades of excellence and innovation in the steel manufacturing industry.
